Idea Magic Box
Closed beta · iPhone + Mac · opens mid-October

Say it. It’s written.
Find it when you need it.

Unlimited voice capture with free transcription that runs on your own device — no cloud, no per-minute meter, no account. iPhone and Mac. Your ideas land as plain markdown in a folder you own, where you can tag them, rate them, and find the keepers again months later.

What it does

Built around how ideas actually move — fast in, sorted later, easy out.

Every feature exists to shorten one of the two distances: the time between having an idea and capturing it, and the time between needing an idea and finding it.

Free transcription, on your device

WhisperKit runs locally — pick the model that suits your Mac or iPhone and talk for as long as you like. No cloud, no per-minute meter, no account. The audio never leaves the device, so it works on a plane and costs nothing on the ground.

One gesture to capture

On iPhone, drag the capture button to a dot around it — record, rate, reuse your last tags — or start a capture from the Action button, Shortcuts or Siri. On Mac it's a keystroke. The point is to get the idea out before it's gone.

Real WYSIWYG markdown

A live-preview editor: bold looks bold, hashtags colour as you type, images render inline, and there is no view/edit toggle to hunt for. The buffer underneath stays plain markdown. Vim mode is in the Mac editor if that's your hands.

Hashtags file it, ratings rank it

Hashtags anywhere in the text do the filing — one idea can be #marketing and #book at once. Ratings are cumulative: press as many times as you believe in it. Nothing starts at zero, so unrated and unloved stay different things.

Find the keepers

Full-text search with relevance ranking, plus filters on tags, rating, date, capture method and completion. Save any combination as a named list in the sidebar. Set a reminder and an idea comes back to you on a Sunday.

Plain markdown, forever

Your ideas are .md files in a folder you chose — open them in vim, Obsidian, or any AI. Files the app saves carry a small YAML header; files you wrote yourself are adopted and never rewritten. Export the whole box whenever you like.

Inbox first, then the box that builds it

Everything lands in one Inbox. When an idea is ready to be executed, teleport it to the box where the work happens — a repo, a project vault, a folder an agent watches. The Inbox stays a ghost trail back to where it went.

iPhone and Mac, one box

Optional sync, off until you switch it on, and enabled per box. Your ideas are encrypted on your device before they leave — we hold no key that can read them. Free for the whole beta, and the app is fully usable with it off forever.

AI when you want it

An on-device LLM summarises, rewrites and pulls action items out of an idea via llama.cpp — no prompt touches a server. Off by default. There is also a headless imb command that reads and writes the same boxes from your terminal, so your agents can query your best ideas (Mac, on request during the beta).

On both machines

Built for the way ideas actually arrive.

Mid-walk. Mid-meeting. Right before you fall asleep. Speak it into the phone and it is transcribed on the device; open the Mac later and the same box is sitting there, three panes wide.

Drag the button to the mic dot. The whole feature, one gesture.
Tags, ratings and dates in one list — sortable, filterable, fast.
Same box on the Mac: sidebar, list, editor, inspector.
Why retrieval matters

The hard part isn't capturing ideas.
It's finding the ones worth doing.

Most note apps assume one shelf — one folder, one filename, one place an idea "belongs." Real ideas don't sit still like that. They have many shapes, and you need every one of them when you go looking. Combine as many of these as you want, then save the combination as a named list in the sidebar and it is one click away forever.

01

Words

Full-text search across every idea, ranked by relevance rather than by date.

02

Topic

Hashtags, multi-assigned. An idea can be #marketing AND #book at once.

03

Rating

Press the button as many times as you believe in it. Then filter for the strongest.

04

Time

Today, this week, three months ago. Old ideas are sometimes the right ones.

05

Done

Mark an idea complete and it leaves the working stream — without leaving the box.

06

Reminder

Surface this one back at me — tomorrow, next month, on a Sunday.

Stop doom-scrolling the internet. Scroll your own ideas instead.

Get on the list.

Three quick questions, then the download. iPhone goes through TestFlight, the Mac app is a notarized direct download. Sync is on and free for the whole beta.

We read every answer — they decide who gets invited first.

When do ideas usually hit you? (check all that apply)

We'll only email you about this beta, and we delete the list when it ends. No tracking pixels, no analytics. Stored on Cloudflare — deleted sooner on request. See the privacy policy and the terms.
